Our Trinity College Christmas cards, feature an image of the Garden Quad, from the end of the Lawns The north range of Garden Quad (centre of image) was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1668, and was originally of two storeys with a mansard roof. Wren, a fellow of Wadham College, was a friend of Ralph Bathurst, who had been elected to the presidency of Trinity in 1664.

Bathurst’s forty-year headship was to be a time of great expansion and success for the college, and the luxurious accommodation of Wren’s building was designed to attract new members to Trinity.
The second side of the quadrangle was completed in the 1680s.

Garden Quad now provides accommodation for undergraduate students in their second year, with the original three-room sets consisting of a shared sitting room and two bedrooms.
