History of the shop

The University of Oxford Shop is the first and only official shop to be owned and run by the University through its wholly owned subsidiary company, Oxford Limited.

Oxford Limited was established in May 1990 in order to license the use of the University's official logo to a variety of manufacturers. It now runs a highly successful worldwide licensing programme using designs and expertise from within the University. The University of Oxford Shop is the retail showcase for the licensing programme, the official University of Oxford Collection.

The University of Oxford Shop also stocks many items designed to compliment the licensed merchandise range. These items are exclusive to us and will not be found anywhere else.

Our location

The University of Oxford Shop is located at 106 High Street, in the centre of the Dreaming Spires of Oxford. This beautiful street is home to many of the Colleges as well as some of the best shops in Oxford including Oxford University Press Bookshop and the Covered Market. We are situated opposite Brasenose College and The University's Church of St Mary the Virgin, and a very short walk away from the Radcliffe Camera and the rest of the Bodleian Library.

The building itself that the shop occupies is called Tackley's Inn (1320) and is one of the few surviving examples of a medieval academic hall. We share this building with A-Plan Insurance next door and there are students living in the quarters upstairs. Our basement has a medieval vaulted ceiling and the original steps up to the High Street are still visible although they are now blocked off. We even have half an original Gargoyle!

Opening hours

The University of Oxford Shop is open 6 days a week all year round with Bank Holidays and Sundays also covered in the summer. Our hours of business are listed below:

0900 - 1730 Monday to Saturday all year round
1100 - 1600 Bank Holidays
1100 - 1600 Sundays in June, July and August
