Oriel College
Oriel College shares its official title with New College: the College of St Mary. It has also been known as King's College and King's Hall, reflecting the fact that it is now the oldest royal foundation at the University of Oxford, founded by King Edward II in 1326.
The fifth oldest college in Oxford, Oriel College has produced many notable alumni, including famed seafaring explorer Sir Walter Raleigh. Nowadays, the nautical theme can be said to stretch to Oriel College's success in rowing.
