In 1947, David Lack started a research programme in the Oxford University Museum of Natural History to find out more about the life of the swift. His account, Swifts is a tower, first published in 1956, is fully revised and updated here by his son Andrew, and by Roy Overall, who has monitored the Museum swifts every year since 1962.
