Magdalen College Oxford: A History
Edited by L W B Brockliss. The first and only history of Magdalen College appeared in 1899. This new history is published as part of the College's 550th anniversary celebrations. It traces Magdalen's changing fortunes from its foundation in 1458 to the retirement of President Smith in 2005. Solidly based on the College's rich archives, it gives due weight to the many different aspects of Magdalen's past: its members and staff, its buildings and grounds, its Chapel and Choir, its three schools, and even its forgotten neighbour, Magdalen Hall. The book is a work of Magdalen's extended family with contributions from present and past fellows, alumni and members of staff.
